AESTHESYS

Embodied Agency in the Age of AI

↓

Come to your senses. Find your own move.

AESTHESYS cultivates the capacity to perceive, discern, and participate differently. Tea, movement, contact and stillness give this inquiry a concrete form.

The question is how we remain the source of our own action while living, thinking and creating with increasingly capable AI.

AESTHESYS × AI

More possibilities. A direction of your own.

AI expands our means of thinking and acting. It can organise information, hold context and carry out delegated operations. It does not inhabit our bodily situation or live the consequences of our choices.

AESTHESYS asks how we choose what matters, revise a direction and take responsibility for our participation in a world we share with others.

AI, Delegation & Human Agency

METHOD

From automatic reaction to a move of your own.

The practice cycle gives attention, discernment and choice a repeatable form. Each return to the situation is an opportunity to notice what the previous response left out.

01

Notice

Notice an automatic response.

02

Pause

Make room before continuing.

03

Orient

Recover the wider situation.

04

Discern

Make relevant differences available.

05

Choose

Determine your own next move.

06

Act

Give the choice a concrete form.

Reflection returns the completed action to attention: what changed, what mattered, and what calls for another approach?

CHANGES

Four directions for developing how we participate.

Aliveness

Practice cultivates sensitivity to change: noticing differences, allowing surprise and adjusting how you participate. Aliveness is a quality of engagement over time, rather than a demand for greater intensity.

Serendipity

Practice develops attention to timing, context and unexpected connections. It trains the art of recognising an opening and finding a move within it. What becomes possible remains an encounter with the world.

Clear Language

AESTHESYS gives precise language to distinctions in experience: presence, responsiveness, meaning and agency. Naming a difference makes it available for reflection and conversation, while leaving room for what is felt before it can be said.

Authenticity

Practice develops the capacity to discern what matters to you, articulate a boundary and take a position of your own. This position remains open to the situation, the other person and the consequences of your action.

Tea Practice

Develops the art of sensory distinction.

Contact Practice

Explores responsiveness, boundaries and shared attention.

Mute Practice

Explores participation through stillness, silence and the unfamiliar.

TRAINING GROUNDS

Different conditions. One inquiry into participation.

Solo

Space for your own signal

Attend to sensation, support and the rhythm of your own action.

Relational

Space to meet others

Explore responsiveness, boundaries and shared attention.

Edge

Space for the unfamiliar

Work with the moment when a familiar response no longer fits.

Solo, Relational and Edge describe conditions of practice. Tea, Contact and Mute are practices that can move between these conditions.
